Beverages are one of my favorite things to consume during the day.  I love an after work beer or glass of wine and I make coffee in my french press every morning…so come cleansing time, I’m not a happy camper 🙁  My withdrawals are always tough that first day or two, mostly because of my caffeine habit!  That being said, here are the beverages I love & live on during the entire cleanse.  You may even enjoy a few of these enough that you’ll incorporate them into your routine once the cleanse is over…maybe… ;P

Water & Cranberry Tonic –

Let’s start with the most important item: water.  You’ll want to drink half your body’s weight in ounces of water each day.  Grab that Camelback and get used to toting it around with you!  You might also make some cucumber infused water to keep in a pitcher in your fridge – heck! – add some lemons and limes and you’ve got a very refreshing Aveda-esque thing happening in your glass!

When cleansing I start off every morning with a glass of room temperature -or warmer- lemon water to gently awaken my system and get my digestive system going.  I’ll rotate this with the following cranberry tonic recipe every other day to add some variety:

Mix 2 ounces of unsweetened cranberry juice  (not that sugary crap!) in 8 ounces of water and drink within in 30 minutes of waking – supports kidney health!

Herbal Tea & Apple Cider Vinegar –

Don’t forget herbal teas.  There are some really delicious teas out there to try and you can sweeten them up with some honey if needed!

In place of coffee, it is recommended to try an apple cider vinegar drink.  I mentioned the Bragg brand yesterday and I bring them up again today because they have some awesome Apple cider vinegar drinks.  You can also make your own – which I’ve never done, but probably should try.  Apple cider vinegar helps with digestion, removes toxins, & is great for weight control among other things.  Apple cider vinegar can be utilized to make salad dressings too!!

Master Cleanse Lemonade –

You’ve probably heard of the Master Cleanse Lemonade diet that some celebs swear by – but there’s no way in hell I’m going to survive on THAT for 30 days!  However, it’s a great beverage during this cleanse.  I think I’m the only person I know who likes this drink, so when I tell you to try it, you may not thank me 😉  Seriously though, I love it!  It’s promotes energy – especially during the broth phase – I substitute it in place of my afternoon caffeine fix almost daily:

10 oz. water (can be warm or room temp)

2 tablespoons of organic lemon juice (about half a lemon)

2 tablespoons of organic grade B maple syrup (not the commercial maple flavored syrup that you see on pancakes)

1/10 teaspoon cayenne pepper powder

Stir all ingredients together 🙂

Note on the Grade B maple syrup – I get mine from Trader Joe’s.  The grade has something to do with the color I believe.  Either way it’s a GREAT way to sweeten up oatmeal, brown rice, smoothies etc…definitely a cleanse staple for me 🙂
